This LP takes as its theme the degenerate mentality of the rich at the close of 1800s when apathy, cynicism and moral decadence permeated the upper social crust of Western Europe. Dark, critical and very insightful, I consider this essential listening. Favorite track: Der Spiegel.

Majbritt Levinsen Porta Nigra have managed to translate the essence of the degenerated mentality from the end of 19th century, when boredom, pessimism and decadence began to show in literature and arts, into music.

"Fin de Siècle" belongs partly to a bygone era, a depraved symphony remembering a generation drowned in the decadence of industrialisation – just as the world today is swamped in a different strain of soullessness and decay. PORTA NIGRA steps effortlessly between one corrupted timeline and another, basking in the profane emptiness everywhere, celebrating the corrosion of all things. This music is atypical, eccentric and truly eclectic. "Fin de Siècle" (d)evolves from source to herald the arrival of a new force in extreme art. A dark and bizarre smorgasbord of degeneration, PORTA NIGRA draws inspiration from a myriad of sources to conjure a sound that has a life of its own.

Mikolaj is a real multi-talent in bass as well as guitar as well as vocals and "Darkside" Maciej's drumming is a well-calibrated 100th-of-seconds-clockwork. Not for nothing is Mgla considered as a standard for a lot of other blacker-than-black metal bands. I hope to see this band live once..... grote_smurf
